Wawel Cathedral Museum

Literally a few days before leaving for the memorable conclave of St. 1978 r. cardinal (yet) Karol Wojtyła opened the Cathedral Museum. Some of the collections from the Cathedral Treasury have been gathered in the gothic walls of the former servants' apartments, from the Library and Archives of the Chapter. Quite convincing copies of the royal tomb insignia are exhibited here (the originals remained in the sarcophagi), royal documents and seals and the sword of Sigismund Augustus twice broken as a sign of mourning for the king and the end of the Jagiellonian dynasty. The chasuble from 1504 r. – a similar fabric bas-relief with ornaments illustrating the legend of St.. Stanislaus, probably designed by Wit Stwosz. They are too, next to liturgical treasures, items related to modern times: clothes of John Paul II, reproduction of the front page of L'Osservatore Romano with the news about the election of a Pole as pope and a cross by Edwin Aldrin, with whom the American astronaut traveled to the moon.
