Contemporary Krakow
Right after liberation, due to the complete destruction of Warsaw, Krakow has become the largest city in the country, the capital of cultural and social life. Unfortunately, briefly. In the then referendum, instead of voting "3 x Yes", the city says "1 x No" and is punished for it. The decision to build Nowa Huta became a visible sign of this, against intelligence, whose position was to be weakened by hundreds of thousands of landlocked peasants turned into workers – tateized, deprived of access to culture and education, new socialist people. To build a new city, later transformed into another district, there was no sufficient basis here: nor iron ores, nor coal, nor a skilled working class. Since its construction, the plant has been successfully polluting the environment, giving Krakow lying in the basin second place (in Upper Silesia) on the list of regions threatened by ecological disaster.
